Prof. Dr. Jaiprakashreddy Patil holds B.A. and LL.B. from Karnatak University, Dharwad; LL.M. from University of Mysore; Ph.D. from Saurashtra University, Rajkot. Currently Dr. Patil is the Vice Chancellor of the National Law University, Assam, since 2016. He was also a Founder Vice Chancellor of Karnataka State Law University, Hubballi from 2009 to 2013; a Special Officer to establish Karnataka State Law University, Hubballi from 2006 to 2009; Vice Chancellor of Gulbarga University, Kalaburagi, from 16-02-1999 to 17-09-1999; Founder Director of College Development Council, Gulbarag University from 1993 to 1996; Founder Dean, Faculty of Law, and Founder Chairman, Department of Law in 1988 at the Gulbarga University, Kalaburagi; Founder Coordinator of the Center for Studies in Vijnaneshwara's Mitakshara and Human Rights at Gulbarga University; Lecturer in Law in University College of Law, Karnatak University, Dharwad from 1982 to 1988; Lecturer at the Department of Law, University of Mysore from 1980 to 1982.

Prof. Dr. Jaiprakashreddy Patil’s achievements were recognized and awarded with TCS-Education World Best Teacher Merit Award (South Zone) in 2005; Best Featured Writer Prize from Lawyersclubindia in 2016; Secured Man of the Year award from M. Nagappa Foundation, Raichur in 2018.

Prof. Patil successfully guided 8 research scholars for the degree of Ph.D., 9 scholars for the degree of M.Phil and 22 students of LL.M. dissertation. He has written 8 books and edited 3 books; published 39 articles; organized 27 seminars, conferences and workshops; presented 75 papers at national and international seminars; chaired 13 sessions in seminars; delivered 41 presidential addresses, 61 inaugural addresses, 24 keynote addresses, 15 valedictory addresses; and participated as resource person in 67 seminars, conferences and workshops, and at 25 refresher courses; delivered 65 special lectures and 5 endowment lectures; attended 43 functions as Chief Guest. Dr. Patil participated in 12 radio and TV programs. He submitted 9 reports to the Government of Karnataka relating to Karnataka State Law University, Hubballi.

Dr. Jaiprakashreddy Patil entered into MoU with the University of Aveiro, Portugal, the University of Gronengen, The Netherlands, Ghent University, Belgium and Pardubice University, Czech Republic as its Vice Chancellor. Worked as Coordinator of India Platform, UGhent, at Ghent University, Belgium in 2011-12, and signed India Platform Stakeholders Agreement between Karnataka State Law University and Ghent University with Professor Dr. Pau Van Cauwenberge, Rector, Ghent University, Belgium. Entered into 9 MoUs as the Vice Chancellor of KSLU; signed 10 MoUs as the Vice Chancellor of the National Law University Assam. Facilitated the membership of Shastri Indo-Cabadian Institute, New Delhi for the National Law University Assam. Successfully completed the project of drafting Assam Inland Water Transportation Regulatory Authority Act passed by the Government of Assam in 2018. Established Research Centers on Blockchain Technology and Law, Space Law, Gender Justice, Corporate Law, Child Rights, Environmental Law, Disability and Health Laws, etc.

Recent Achievements

Under Dr. Patil’s leadership the National Law University Assam secured 16th rank as per the National Institutional Ranking Framework, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi in the year 2020. In recognition of high Scholastic order and patronage to the cause of research and development in the study of many tributaries of Oriental Learning such as Literature, Language, Art and Culture for the propagation, modernization and popularization of all branches of ancient knowledge, linked in a befitting manner with modern perspectives, Dr. Patil received the prestigious Vishwakavi Rabindranath Tagore Memorial Award from Indian Institute of Oriental Heritage, an International Institute of Oriental Studies and Research, Kolkata, India. Also, he was awarded with the Secured Manager of the Year 2020 Medal in recognition of the service rendered in building The National Law University Assam, as one of the top 100 Universities by Socrates Committee, Oxford, UK. The National Law University Assam, steered by Dr. Patil, since 2016 has been ranked as one of the top 100 Universities in the world as recognized by the Achievement Forum 2020, London, UK.

Among Dr. Patil’s most recent achievements are publishing the article titled “Reconceptualization of Jurisprudential Studies in the Emerging Global Order: a Heuristics for Indian Legality” (Soochow Law Journal, Vol. XV, No.1, January 2018, ISSN 1816-983X, pp.149-163), and also presenting a paper “The Dynamics of Immigrants Problem in Assam, India”, at the Second South Asia Conference on Multidisciplinary Research 2019 (SAMR'19) in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
