Christos Bouras was born on June 7, 1962 at Kalamata, Greece, and he is a full Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics and the Rector of the University of Patras. Professor Bouras graduated from the University of Patras in 1985 with a Diploma in Computer Engineering and Informatics. This was followed by a PhD in 1993 in Computer Engineering and Informatics from the same University.

He has published more than 450 papers in peer reviewed journals, book chapters and conferences, and has also been a co-author of nine books and an editor of two. He has served on the Editorial Board of a wide range of international journals and has been a programme committee member and referee in an extensive number of international journals and conferences. Throughout his career, Professor Bouras has been actively teaching and directing courses on various topics in the field of Computer Engineering. He has participated in numerous Research and Development projects aiming to bridge the gap between Academia and the Private Sector.

Professor Bouras’ research interests include 5G and Beyond Networks, Analysis of Performance of Networking and Computer Systems, Computer Networks and Protocols, Mobile and Wireless Communications, Telematics and New Services, QoS and Pricing for Networks and Services, e-learning, Networked Virtual Environments and WWW Issues. He has extensive professional experience in the Design and Analysis of Networks, Protocols, Telematics and New Services.

Through his career Professor Bouras has held several high-profile posts including:

1998–2003, Director on Networking Technology Sector, CTI, Patras, Greece;

1996–1998, Researcher, Supervisor of the Research Unit 1, Computer Technology Institute, Patras, Greece;

1998–today, Scientific Supervisor of the Research Unit 6 - Computer Technology Institute and Press (Diophantus), Patras, Greece;

2000–2001, Member of Board of Directors Computer Technology Institute;

2013–2017, Director of Post Graduated Studies for program Science and Technology of Computers, Department of Computer Engineering & Informatics, School of Engineering, University of Patras, Greece;

2010–2016, Member of BoD of the Research Committee, University of Patras;

2014–2016, Vice President of Research Committee, University of Patras;

2015–April 2019, Vice President of the Company managing the Development and Management of the University Property;

2020, President of the Company managing the Development and Management of the University Property.

Between 2015 – April 2019 Professor Bouras was the Vice Rector for Economics, Planning and Implementation of Projects, and in 2020 was elected Rector of the University of Patras, a post that he holds to this day.

As a Rector of the University of Patras, Professor Bouras has developed new policies and practices aiming to strengthen the research activity, technological development and innovation at the University. More specifically through Professor Bouras’ Rectorship new policies and initiatives have been implemented aiming to support both research and teaching at the University including: Start-up funds for newly employed academic staff; Funding schemes for open access publications; research awards which aim to promote research activities within the University; Teaching Awards.

Furthermore, the Rector has actively supported the entrepreneurial spirit, and supported the creation of spin-off companies together with the development of an effective legal protection mechanism of the University’s innovative research results.

Professor Bouras’ work in the University of Patras is dedicated on creating a campus that fosters collaboration and promotes diversity among students, faculty and staff.
