The Inonu University campus area was constructed in 1973-1974 and entirely had a steppe composition. However, today this area is occupied with forests and buildings, and construction activities continue. The campus is built on 7000 acres of land and consists of 3100 acres of woodland and green space, 3716 acres of natural green space, and 184 acres of hard ground and building floor. The University strives to protect and take this green texture to a higher level with the thousands of trees planted there every year. Since 2017, Inonu University has focused on Green Campus studies and has made significant progress in this field.
In recent years, all buildings built in Inonu University have been constructed under the Green Building concept. In all subsequent projects, projecting processes in accordance with the Green Building concept continue following the same idea.
Transportation culture has been developed in the University, particularly, 2600 staff commutes by shuttles every day, and thousands of students use electric tram buses provided by the Metropolitan Municipality. The University has 2 double-outlet electric vehicle charging stations. In addition, the University has a 6000-meter walkway and 3200 meters bike path on campus.

Inonu University has implemented the “Zero Waste” system for all its academic and administrative units. All solid waste, chemical waste, glass, etc., collected in these units are sorted, some of them are recycled, and those that need to be disposed of are disposed of by those concerned in a way that does not harm nature. The Green Campus staff strives to raise awareness of the students and staff with education activities in the field of Green Campus and collaborates with various public institutions and organizations, especially the Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanization. As a result of these activities, it was possible to bring 90% of the recycling from academic and administrative units back into the economy.
Inonu University strives to serve in all campus areas to carry its existing campus facilities to national and international energy performance standards, which are compatible with the Green Campus culture, create difference and value and stand as an example for other universities. The University develops a Green Campus culture to raise awareness about the efficient use of natural resources and prevent waste generation, and, as a result, to provide activities that will increase the positive effects of the University on the environment.
