International University named after K. Sh. Toktomamatov was established on April 1, 1993, according to the Decree №VII-100 of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic “On Creation of the Commercial Institute of Kyrgyz Cooperative Unions in Jalal-Abad”. In accordance with the Decree on the suggestion of Kyrgyz Cooperative Unions (currently it is the founder of the Institute), the institute was originally called the Jalal-Abad Commercial Institute. It was established based on the Jalal-Abad Cooperative Technical College (1966) and Jalal-Abad Cooperative School (1959). Professor, Doctor of Economic Sciences Kantoro Sharipovich Toktomamatov was appointed the Rector of the Institute, and Professors Sh.B. Almanbetov and B.S. Tashbaev were appointed as Co-Rectors of Educational and Scientific work and Extra-Curricular work respectively.
In the first years of its work, besides the above-mentioned people, K.M. Ismanov, the Mayor of the city, T.A. Anarkulov, Chairman of Jalal-Abad oblast Cooperative Unions (later he was elected the Chairman of the Kyrgyz Cooperative Union Board), as well as A.Ch. Kakeev, who was Minister of Education in the Kyrgyz Republic at that time, paid great attention to the development of the Institute.
In the same 1993, the Kyrgyz-Turkish Faculty of Management was created, which later was renamed to International Kyrgyz-Turkish Institute (in 2008). It was done as part of the university quadripartite agreement between the Research Foundation of Turkish-speaking countries, the Republic of Turkey «Türk Dünyası» (Turkish World), the Ministry of Education, and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, Kyrgyz Cooperative Unions, and Jalal-Abad oblast administration.
The first alumnus specialists with the qualification academic degree of Bachelor in economics, management, trading, and food technology products were graduated from the Institute in 1997.
In accordance with the resolution №4 dated 16 July 2005 of the general meeting of Kyrgyz Cooperative Unions (the University founder), the Institute was transformed to the Academy of Economics and Enterprise. In the same year, in accordance with the Decree №7/3 of the Board of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, the university status was upgraded, and then it got a new name, the University of Economics and Enterprise. On April 4, 2017, by the Decree №2 of Kyrgyz Cooperative Unions, having taken into account the qualitative and quantitative growth and appearance of new structural divisions, the University of Economics and Enterprise was renamed to the International University in Jalal-Abad (INU).
A year later the University was officially assigned the name of the Professor, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Academician of RAM Kantoro Sharipovich Toktomamatov, the founder, first Rector, and President of the University. Currently, it is called the International University named after K. Sh. Toktomamatov.
The University has constantly improved the provision of educational services, successfully combining domestic and foreign experience, adhering to state and international educational standards.
Prof. Dr. Satybaldy Omurzakov, RectorSince 1993, in line with integration growth, MNU has been actively cooperating with such foreign countries as the Research Foundation of the Turkic-speaking countries of the Republic of Turkey, with universities of the Republic of Turkey, and with universities of the Russian Federation. Also, within the framework of the Magna Carta of Universities, this unites 750 universities in the world. Last year, MNU has signed agreements with INHA University (Korea) 2+2 program, the University of Missouri (USA), the Belorussian University 2+2 program, and many others. In total, the University has 38 agreements with different universities of the world.
The MNU has been operating the Center for Innovative Developments and Scientific Research named after K.Sh. Toktomamatov.
At present, the MNU has such dissertation councils as D. 08.20.606 in two economic specialties: 08.00.05 - Economics and National Economy Management, 08.00.12 - Accounting, Statistics; and D. 12.20.614 in three law specialties: 12.00.01;12.00.02; 12.00.06.
In 2021, 10 professors from MNU have published articles in SCOPUS and WEB of sciences. 15 teachers were awarded the title of Honored Worker of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Last year, international students from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Italy, Turkey, and others were enrolled.
