José Luis Calvo-Guirado earned his degree in Dentistry from the University of Cordoba, Argentina, in 1989. In 2001, he obtained his Doctor in Dentistry (Ph.D.) degree from the University of Murcia, Spain.
In 2014, he obtained an International European Cum-Laude PhD., Doctorate in Bioengineering of Biomaterials from Universidad Miguel Hernandez de Elche (UMH), Spain.
His research activity began in 1997; he has been the Principal Investigator for over 85 contracts and projects and has received several national and international grants to conduct research and experimental studies.
Currently, he is an Associate Researcher of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Universidad Autónoma de Chile, and a Volunteer Research Professor at the School of Dental Medicine of Stony Brook University in New York, NY, USA. He is a Research Member of BIO-TISSUE Research Group, Instituto Murciano de Investigacion Biomédica (IMIB- Carlos III).
Also, he is a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the University of Belgrade, Serbia (since 2014); a Visiting Professor at the Catholic University of Córdoba, Argentina (since 2010); and a Visiting Professor of Tito Maiorescu of Bucharest, Romania.
Dr. José Luis Calvo-Guirado is a Full Professor in Oral & Implant Surgery accredited by ANECA, Spanish Government.
He has the Private Practice in Murcia, and is the Director of Calvo-Guirado Dental Implant Institute.
Professor José Luis Calvo-Guirad is an Honorary Member of Castilla y León Hygienist Association; Academician of Real Academy of Medicine and Surgery (Murcia, Spain, 2017); Corresponding Academic of the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery of the region of Murcia; Distinguished Graduate of the 400 years of Life of the National University of Cordoba (Argentina, 2012); an Honorary Professor, Academy of Scientific Oral Surgery (Argentina, 2019). He is the Director of the “Murcia Biomaterials and Implants Research Group" (MBIRG), since 2010.

Prof. José Luis Calvo-Guirado is in position 51st Worldwide in the Dental Implantation Ranking in the Expertscape Web Ranking. He is also in position 9th in the Bone Implant Interface Ranking in the Expertscape Web Ranking.
His recognized international expertise is based on Oral Surgery, Dental Implants, Bone Substitutes, Animal Research, and Digital Technologies.
He is the Principal Researcher of more than 200 international research projects (Germany, Switzerland, Argentina, Italy, USA, Sweden, France).
Prof. José Luis Calvo-Guirado has authored over 265 publications in PubMed and 350 manuscripts in non-JCR journals, and published 160 research projects in implants and biomaterials.
He is the author of 7 books and co-author of 8 other scientific books, and has 26 invention patents.

Prof. Dr. Calvo-Guirado is involved in the IADR Implantology Research Group Executive Committee, USA, and in European Board in Oral Surgery by European Federation of Oral Surgery Societies, Efoss.
He is the Founder of the NGO “Asociación Calvo Guirado Niños de San Juan” (ACANISA), Founder and Partner of the Academy of Scientific Oral Surgery (ACBA) of the province of San Juan, Argentina.
Since 2000, Prof. Dr. José Luis Calvo-Guirado is the designer of surgical instruments for dentistry (Schwert, Germany).
He is a Reviewer and a member of Editorial and Scientific Boards of over 30 international scientific journals, and is also a member of numerous national and international professional societies and organizations.
