Throughout its history, the University has helped shape the country and wider region through research and the dissemination of knowledge. It strives to preserve national heritage while pursuing innovative solutions and promoting academic excellence.

Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the first President of the UAE, understood that the future of any nation depends upon the education of its young people. He dreamed of a national flagship university that would provide students with a world-class education and supply the knowledge and skilled workers necessary to support the national economy while helping to solve some of the nation’s most pressing problems through research. In 1976, his dream became a reality when the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) was established.

1977: The University opened four faculties. These were the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, known then as the Faculty of Arts; the Faculty of Science; the Faculty of Education; and the Faculty of Business and Economics, known then as the Faculty of Administrative and Political Science.

UAEU strives to maximize the success of its students and continuously monitors their success through various indicators, such as enrolment, graduation and retention, attainment of learning outcomes, and students’ research experience, which are monitored by the University and shared with all stakeholders. These reports are central to the University’s internal processes for assessing students’ achievements and the effectiveness of teaching and learning.

Learning outcomes at UAEU are defined at the course, program, and institutional levels. The three progressive levels of learning outcomes are aligned with each other and with the program objectives, the UAEU mission and goals, and the requirements of the national and international accreditation agencies. The outcome attainment level is defined as the percentage of students who scored 70% or higher (80% or higher in the case of graduate programs) in the collected assessment data. The outcome is attained if the calculated attainment level is equal to or greater than a predefined attainment target. The minimum attainment target is currently set to 70% across the entire University.

As the UAE’s flagship university, UAEU currently enrolls large numbers of national and international students in a full range of accredited high-quality undergraduate and graduate programs.
