In the center of Almaty, at the intersection of Tole bi and Akhmet Baitursynov streets, a 13-storey main building of Almaty Technological University (ATU) is located. During 64 years of its history, more than 50,000 people have received higher education here. ATU graduates now work in all corners of the Republic of Kazakhstan and foreign countries, recalling with gratitude their "Alma Mater".

It all started in 1957, when by orders of the Ministry of Food Industry of the USSR and the Ministry of Higher Education of the USSR No. 155/548 the Alma-Ata branch of the Institute for Advanced Training of Management and Engineering and Technical Workers was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Higher Education of the USSR and reorganized into the Alma-Ata branch of the All-Union Correspondence Institute of the Food Industry. Today, ATU is one of the leading higher educational institutions in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, that has been training specialists and scientific personnel for more than 60 years for the food, processing, textile and light industries, service and hospitality industries.

The mission of ATU is to provide quality education at the level of the best universities in the world, to preserve and disseminate knowledge.

Almaty Technological University implements 27 Bachelor's degree programs, 24 Master's degree programs, and 13 educational programs Ph.D.

The total number of its Academic staff is 490, among them: 370 - full-time employees (84.5 %), 43 - Doctors of Science, Professors (12 %); Candidates of Science – 116 (31 %); Ph.D. - 49 (13 %).

The total area of ATU is more than 70,000 sq. m. The University's infrastructure includes: 3 academic buildings; 5 dormitories; large and small assembly halls; a scientific library; 13 educational and scientific centers; a sewing shop; a training and production restaurant; a food factory; a sports hall and a stadium; a medical center; a printing house; a student service center.

Main directions of the University development:
1. Providing sectors of the economy with competitive personnel.
2. Modernization of the content of higher and postgraduate education in the context of global trends.
3. Increase the contribution of science to the needs of the country industry.
4. Improving the management and monitoring of the development of higher and postgraduate education.
5. Development of the infrastructure of the University.

Training information resources, computers and software:
1. The Cisco ASA firewall is used to protect information at the hardware level.
2. To manage the educational process at ATU, the Information and Software complex "Univer" is used univer.atu.kz.
3. The platform Edx Open.atu.kz is used to conduct mass open online courses.
4. The electronic document management system "Documentolog 7" is used to automate all internal emails, memos, etc. atu.documentolog.kz.
5. The "Antiplgiat" system is used to check the graduation works for borrowing.
6. Live.atu.kz is used to monitor and control the progress of the final control remotely. In recent years, Almaty Technological University has been systematically implementing the principles of the Bologna Declaration, actively integrating into the global educational space and becoming more and more recognizable in the world.

For several years, Almaty Technological University occupies high positions in the national and international ratings.

In the QS University Rankings: Eastern Europe & Central Asia 2019 ranking, ATU is among the TOP 300 universities in Eastern Europe and Central Asia; in the national ranking, it is among the top 5 best technical universities in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Every year, the specialized educational programs of ATU occupy the first places in the National Academic Rankings of educational programs:

• IAAR Eurasian University Ranking (IAAR-EUR) 2020 - 8th place
• ARES 2020 European Rating - category A
• Webometrics ranking - 23rd place
• Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (IAOAE) - 7th place

Since 2005, ATU has been operating a Quality Management System (QMS), certified for compliance with the requirements of international standards ISO 9001 - 2008. The effectiveness of the ATU QMS is confirmed by independent audits conducted by the Certification Association ― Russian Register - a member of the IQNet international certification network.

ATU is a collective member of the International Association of Universities; the International Student Exchange Association; the Club of Rectors of European Universities; the International Bibliographic Society; the Union of Eurasian Universities; and the EDNET Consortium.

Almaty Technological University cooperates with more than 120 universities around the world. Its partner universities for implementing double-degree programs are:
