About Winner

Dr. Naomab is the Vice-Chancellor of the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). Prior to his appointment as Vice-Chancellor at NUST, he was the Assistant Pro Vice-Chancellor at the University of Namibia (UNAM).

NUST Rector 1

Erold Naomab was born on 2 April 1977. He grew up in Omaruru in the Erongo Region of Namibia. He attended schools in Omaruru, Okombahe, and Otjiwarongo. After a brief stint at a consultancy firm, Naomab started tertiary education at the University of Namibia, graduating with a Bachelor's (BSc) and Master of Science (MSc) which he also passed cum laude and awarded the Chancellor’s Medal for overall best student.

NUST Rector 2

He obtained a Master of Research in Strategic Resource Management from Nottingham Trent University (UK) with distinction and holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in plant science from the University of Nottingham (UK).

Dr. Naomab worked at the Southern Campus of the University of Namibia (UNAM) in Keetmanshoop, where he rose to the position of Assistant Pro-Vice Chancellor, UNAM's highest-ranking administrator at that campus.

In January 2021, he was appointed Vice-Chancellor of the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), succeeding the founding Rector Tjama Tjivikua, and taking over from Andrew Niikondo, who acted in that position.

Recent Achievements

Dr. Erold Naomab has authored several publications and holds internationally registered IP from his research work.

He was honored with several professional and technical awards in higher education leadership, innovation, and strategy. These were obtained from the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Leibniz Institute for New Materials in (INM) Germany, and UNAM, namely: Education Leadership Award from the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Commonwealth Professional Fellow (2020), funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID); candidate for the 2018-2019 German African Innovation Incentives award (BMBF Germany); the University of Nottingham Travel Prize (2007); Chancellor’s Medal, Best Student, University of Namibia; Vice-Chancellor’s Medal, Best Post-Graduate Student, University of Namibia; Alumni Association Best Student Award, University of Namibia.

Dr. Naomab brings a wealth of strategic and visionary leadership skills, extensive academic experience, research and development skills in science and technology, and a strong drive for innovation to lead the university to the next level. His strategic networking skills with development institutions, the private sector, the international community, and the local public sector are a great asset to NUST.
