De La Salle University–Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) is a private Roman Catholic, Lasallian co-educational secondary and higher education institution run by the De La Salle Brothers of the Philippine District of the Christian Brothers in Dasmariñas, Philippines.
DLSU-D offers an unconventional take on education and allows students to learn in an environment surrounded by nature and inculcates in them not only the Lasallian values of faith, zeal, and service but also allows them to experience and participate in socially responsible projects throughout their stay in the university.
The university was established on July 18, 1977, as a private, nonsectarian tertiary school named General Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite and managed by the Yaman Lahi Foundation. In 1987, ownership and management were transferred to Frère (St.) Bénilde Romançon Educational Foundation Inc., a sister corporation of De La Salle University-Manila. It became a Catholic institution under the name De La Salle University-Emilio Aguinaldo College. In 1992, the name DLSU-EAC was changed to De La Salle University-Aguinaldo. In 1997, the institution's name was changed again. It is presently known as De La Salle University–Dasmariñas.
The University is established and managed by the De La Salle Brothers and their lay partners in the historic province of Cavite in response to the needs of the Church and the Nation for human and Christian education, particularly the youth at risk.
Guided by the Lasallian values of Faith, Zeal, and Communion, the University participates meaningfully in the process of social transformation by forming God-centered, people-oriented, and patriotic persons who serve as responsible and professionally competent stewards of God's creation.
To realize this vision, the University strives to become a leading institution nationally and globally in the integral formation of the youth by offering relevant, responsive, and community-oriented academic programs, research and extension services, and promoting a keen sense of history, arts, and culture.
Following the footsteps of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, the University continues transforming itself into a caring community guided by Gospel values, with a fervent spirit of service, love for learning, and excellence through a holistic formation of its members.
De La Salle University-Dasmariñas constantly engages in community extension efforts by partnering with communities and institutions to empower and uplift the lives of the beneficiaries. Through the Lasallian Community Development Center, it implements proactive programs on livelihood, health, education, and relief in times of disaster.
DLSU-D provides an opportunity for out-of-school youths seeking to take the Department of Education's (DepEd) Assessment and Equivalency exam with evening classes facilitated by faculty members who volunteer their time to teach these students for free under the Balik Aral Program.
Similar to the Balik Aral Program, the College of Business Administration and Accountancy offers scholarship opportunities to poor but deserving students who want to complete business programs under the tutelage of CBAA faculty members who donate their time to the program. Among the beneficiaries of the DLSU-D Night College program are students who are employed full-time as service crew, school maintenance, house helps, clerks, and production operators who want to uplift their lives and that of their families by earning their college diplomas.
In an effort to establish a transformation center for the youth-at-risk in the province of Cavite, DLSU-D took it upon itself to build an alternative to crowded detention centers. The Bahay Pag-asais a monastery-type center where residents undergo Basic Education, Spiritual Formation and Values Education, Livelihood and Skills Training Program, and a Post Release Program that includes parent education, family counseling, home visits, job referrals, and placement, scholarships, guardianship, hotline services, cooperative learning groups, legal assistance, peer support networking, entrepreneurial skills, and homecomings.
In addition, the DLSU-D's sustainability programs have been recognized internationally when it ranked as the top Philippine university in terms of sustainability based on the annual evaluation of the Universitas Indonesia of over 600 participating schools in the world in Green Metric Global University Ranking, 2013-2018. The University also maintains its position in the world's top 30 percent of sustainable campuses.
